Dear all,
Next week the Portuguese parliament will vote a new law for the adoption of
open standards in public services IT systems.
The parliamentary commission who prepared this law is in doubt if the
public services should adopt one standard for each purpose, that is a file
format for documents, a file format for audio, one protocol for file
transfers, etc, or allow multiple overlapping open standards for the same
purpose.
ESOP thinks that a unique standard for each logical purpose is the way to
go, but we would like to reinforce our position with foreign legislation or
any european recommendations that match our position.
Tomorrow we will need to send this information to the Portuguese
parliament, so it would be very useful any kind of information you could
provide us about the adoption or the recommendations of a single open
standard for each purpose.
We appreciate your advice on this important turning point of our IT
policies.
Best regards
Gustavo
